Luzhou Laojiao 1573 ‘The First Cellar in China' Baijiu

Laojiao means ‘old cellar’ in Chinese and refers to the clay cellars were grain which is distilled to make this tradition spirit is fermented. It is thought that microbes in the clay walls contribute to the flavour of the spirit. Luzhou is one of the best known brands of Baijiu.

Όψη:

Crystal clear.

Μύτη:

Pungent peppery spirit and fermenting yeast with ripe peach skin.

Στόμα:

Intense spirit notes and favour with slight sweetness and peach fruity notes with pear drops.

Επίγευση:

Best liked to sweet peach hairspray. Considered a delicacy in China this potent spirit is unlikely to appeal to many western palates. I’ve sored this 2/5 before but in its category it’s a 5/5 and I can appreciate its sweet fruity estery notes, hence my middle of the road score.
