Clear, mid to deep golden amber.
Intense and complex. Apple, baked peach, clove, wax jacket, candied fruit and faint candied ginger. Orange marmalade and ginger biscuit with water.
Baked pear and intense spice. Overbaked apple turnover pastry, sweet clove and eccles cakes. A dash of water knocks back the baked biscuity fruit and amplifies the spice. Don’t be tempted to add more water as this kills the fruitiness.
Buttery apple, tarte tatin finish.
Considering the price and the degree of pleasing flavours - bang per buck, this is my personal pick from Diageo’s 2016 Special Releases. Baked orchard fruit, mild clove spice, pastry and vanilla rich oak. Quaffable, pleasing and yet complex.
