National One-Liners Day

The Last Laugh

So we are drinking...

The Last Laugh

One-liners. Short, snappy statements that pack a punch, whether it's a clever quip or a wise observation.

Today we celebrate the art of the one-liner, the clever wordplay that has been used for centuries to make people laugh, think, or both. From the ancient Greek philosopher Zeno's famous one-liner "Man is the measure of all things" to the modern (and less profound) "My wife told me to stop impersonating a flamingo. I had to put my foot down", one-liners have stood the test of time as a beloved form of expression.

How about a few more witty one-liners for your merriment?

I was wondering why the frisbee kept getting bigger and bigger, but then it hit me.

The problem with kleptomaniacs is that they always take things literally.

The easiest time to add insult to injury is when you're signing someone's cast.

Light travels faster than sound, which is the reason that some people appear bright before you hear them speak.

My therapist says I have a preoccupation for revenge. We'll see about that.

Why not try some one-liners of your own today? After all, they do say that laughter is the best medicine. But be sure to heed the words of Oscar Wilde..."Hear no evil, speak no evil, and you won't be invited to cocktail parties." What ever you do, be sure to have a Last Laugh.

It's Lady of Altagracia Day

Altagracia is the patron saint of The Dominican Republic, and is based on an interpretation of the Virgin Mary.

One of the many stories of Altagracia suggests that a portrait of her kept disappearing from a house, only to keep turning up in an orange tree. Another story comes from a book called The Gift of Gracias, and explains how the Lady of Altagracia saved a family's farm through an abundant orange harvest.

Whichever story you prefer, it can generally be agreed that the festival is associated with oranges, so we decided that a Honeysuckle Daiquiri would not only reflect this, but is a delicious cocktail as well. Enjoy!
