The chaps at Sipsmith are rightly proud of opening the first new distillery in London for two centuries and like to show it off. Aside from the majority of the drinks industry seemingly always casually popping in, they run official distillery tours on Wednesday evenings every week.
Sipsmith use the term 'distillery tour' and this common industry term conjures up images of tour guides, visitor centres and sampling rooms, culminating with the obligatory visit to the gift shop. Well, there are no branded key rings, caps or T-shirts at Sipsmith - nor a tour guide - multilingual or not. This is a one room operation (toilet aside) in a space little larger than a double-size garage and your guide will be the owners and distillers themselves who will talk you through how Prudence, the copper pot still, works and how they use her to make their gin and vodka. Naturally, you'll be greeted with a drink and talked through a tasting of their products.
