Today I got hold of a bottle Saint James (in France, in Germany it's quite difficult) and had to use it immediately. I tried it first without pepper dusting, very good, but the dusting makes the cocktail really excellent.
This is really excellent! The Campari sits just right; you can’t really taste it without a lot of concentration but you’d know the difference if it was omitted.
As with all simple sours, your selection of rum will make all the difference.
Not the first sip, but when the cocktail sits - and the 3rd sip, then it is so good, complex, deep with all the interesting tastes of the aged rhum agricole with the added freshness of a Daiquiri.
While I am a big Agricore rhum fan, I don't think I would have ever tried this if it has not been one of the Cocktails of the Day. The thought of finely ground pepper on the top seemed a bit odd. Was I wrong. This is wonderful and will now be one of my favourite cocktails. Perfect for an aperitif with some olives and cheese.
