Shouldn't this version of Singapore Sling also be topped up with soda water as the three others (Baker's Formula, Raffle's Formula and formula sing Old Tom Gin) are?
I made this tonight for a party and everyone found it to be tasty but a bit strong. We added a glug of cloudy lemonade and it was perfect for a longer drink. I can imagine a dash of soda water would be similar.
Is the 1/12 (one twelfth) of a fluid ounce measure of grenadine correct? (I did check that the metric is a scant 2.5mL as well). Does that basically mean a barspoon? I don't think I've commonly seen such a small measurement for grenadine. Is this a typo for 1/2 (one half) fluid ounce?
For comparison, most other recipes (including Punch Drink, Jim Meehan in the New York Times, and the Raffles Hotel variant included on this site) specify 1/4 fluid ounce of grenadine.
My mother in law told a brilliant story about being taken for the perfect Singapore Sling. Sadly we’ll never know which version she had. This one is my favourite so raise a glass to Margaret as you enjoy.
