I think this is the first 5/5 drink I've tried! I don´t like the idea of putting a 5/5 on anything, but I can´t even contemplate giving this a lower rating. For me the balance between the bourbon, orange and almond is just perfect. This one disappeared quickly from the glass! Replaced the 5 ml sugar syrup with more orgeat, as I usually end up doing with trader vic cocktails.
I'm an unabashed fan of Willett whiskey and Old Bardstown 101 proof with my fave Luxardo Triplum was a devastatingly delectable combo in this when served up. I might get in trouble with this drink. Did NOT think this lineup of ingredients would gel. I love being wrong.
What a perfect Tiki drink if you are having people who like Bourbon or Whiskey over rum. We used 2/3s of the sugar syrup, and still found it a bit sweet; however, being from Trader Vics that is understandable. For a less sweet version I would omit the sugar syrup entirely.
I love this cocktail. The sharp burn of bourbon is a great balance to the sweetness of the orgeat. Personally I add a pinch of salt to tone down the sweetness.
