The "cocktail of the day" intro names Sept 30th, 1912, as an auspicious day in the Robert Scott tragedy. However, his attempt to walk out of Antartica began on actually began on January 19th. He walked the first 300 miles by February 7th. 20 days later, they still had 300 miles to go and reached the spot where they died on March 19th. It is estimated that he died 10-11 days later.

I think you are referring to Scott. However, on our Cocktail of the Day page, we are referring to the party of 6, “Northern Party”, who were left in the vicinity of “Evans Cove” on the 4th of January, and they were meant to be picked up on Feb the 18th. But due to heavy pack ice the ship never made it. There was an attempt to relieve the “Northern Party” on 17th of April however they were beaten by the weather. Their walk back to base camp started on 30th September, and they reached Cape Evans on 7th of November.

Tried this again with the original recipe and no water. Poured over medium ice cubes. Found it a bit more powerful, but also with a different balance of flavours. I think I do like the original measurements; although, it is strong.

This is wonderful! I do not understand why it has such a low rating (I almost gave it 5+). Noilly Prat (like Campari) seems to have the ability to transform whatever it comes into contact with. This has got to be the best substitute for a Wet Martini during the winter months.

Not a fan of anything w/ smoke but I applied the recipe A-Z and did not substitute the Dewars. Very good. Great effect of vermouth.

Great cocktail. Nice balance of the smoky and honey. Vermouth seems to even everything out.

I used the original ratios using Dolin Dry vermouth and Monkey Shoulder whisky. I was surprised how easy it was to drink. Not overtly herbal and with a pleasant honeyed smoothness.
