I find a little amazing that nobody is doing this with THE tequila, but also using ROMPOPE which is the mexican advocaat. Available everywhere in Mexico -sort of the booze for grannies. It taste very surprising, with the Sherry.

I hear you. Rompope is what I have used in the cocktails I've made that call for advocaat. Haven't tried this one yet.

This one is seriously underrated by the users and I know why!

Although you can scrape by with a cheap bottle of Blanco tequila, the same can't be said for Reposado and Añejo... The bottom shelf offerings will more often than not destroy the flavour of a cocktail.

At a bare minimum get the ones made of 100% blue agave. Personally I'm fond of Lunazul Tequila which is in the middle tier.

No need to apologize, Simon! I was researching what kind of press this drink has gotten and kept seeing it surprisingly pop up with advocaat. When I asked someone why, he pointed me here, where I didn't know it was listed! Thanks! Now I have to try it with advocaat! (I actually created this back in 2007, and tried it various ways over the years, including aging the tequila in a small cask I had seasoned with sherry for 6 months prior. These days at ELIXIR, we just build it with no aging.

Thanks, H. I look forward to seeing you at Elixir again in the not-too-distant future.

I used an espresso crème tequila liqueur instead of the more traditional tequila and the resulting, extra creamy with a hint of coffee, cocktail was divine. I will be serving at next years Christmas soirèe.

I made variations by using resposado tequila and Marsala Secco…you gotta use what you’ve got! It is still an advocaat drink (great), but with a bit of restraint of the sweeter side of the advocaat.
