Whisky works brilliantly in a fruit cup, arguably even better than gin. The spice and robustness of American rye whiskey adds a pleasing backbone to this...
Used this for a Bonfire Night party and it was very well received. Simon would probably not approve but I mixed the fruit garnish with the spirits in advance and it really added to the flavour. Then to serve I just topped up with the Ginger Ale and Cola.
Agreed, the whisky versions of this excellent and versatile recipe - it just calls out for creative experimentation - really work superbly well. I believe I had a whisker of gin left in the glass when I retried with rye; the result was not displeasing ;). Fresh herbs, fruits and berries for garnish also make this special.
J avoid purchasing commercial colas to not support global megacorps - made a chinotto-like drink from 3.5:1 soda water to Abano amaro and a dash of sugar syrup. Went scant on this and heavy on the ginger ale, as noted by previous commentators.

how do we measure 5/6 ounce easily? are there jiggers for that I don't know about?
Our transatlantic shipping is frustratingly presently many times the cost of an Easy Jigger but we hope to have US distribution. Perhaps also buy some for friends as same shipping cost for 1 or 10.
I didn't realize I commented anonymously and unsure if you will see this but thanks for the reply. I'm in the land of the freedom unit. Will check out the easy jigger. Thanks!
A great drink, thanks Simon.
