I buy one bottle of Tawny Port every year (Christmas time) and have until now never been able to finish more than 2 thirds (at most) of a bottle but more often than not only half a bottle. Glad to discover a new delicious way to drink it that might make it more appealing to those that don't like either ingredients on their own. I will now be looking for other recipes and hopefully can get other family members to help prevent wastage at Christmas.
It's great to hear this! Playing with port wine is such an uplifting ingredient in many cocktails. The wines are already one of the best in the world, winning 85-95 points on average (for what it's worth). The balance they give to classic cocktails is just great. Replacing a lesser wine in my regards - vermouths - with port is a choice more and more mixologists make.
Wonder if I can fact check something… when I was trained I got told to pour the brandy and then provide the customer with the port bottle to let them decide on the measure to their taste preference. Obviously open to abuse but perhaps customers were trustworthy back in the day. Can anyone confirm?
