Unveiled in London 8th April 2014, the launch of this whisky by Diageo lit up the global news networks. Not due to its being one of the few mainstream bottlings of a grain whisky, but because of its being marketed in partnership with sporting celebrity David Beckham and pop impresario Simon Fuller.

Fittingly Haig Club is distilled at Diageo’s Cameronbridge, a distillery established in 1824 by John Haig and where the production of grain whisky using continuous column distillation was pioneered.

Haig Club is column distilled from 90% fermented wheat and 10% malted barley to emerge from the still at 94.8% alc./vol.. This distillate is then reduced to 68.5% and put into three different types of cask: first-fill, rejuvenated and refill ex-bourbon barrels, to mature for around six to seven years (Haig Club does not carry an age statement). After blending it is reduced to bottling strength.

Aparência:

Clear, pale to mid-golden amber.

Aroma:

Vanilla fudge, toasted almond, almond croissants, acacia honey and dried mango with mild light white pepper and buttery oak. Water enhances toasted almond and buttery almond croissant.

Sabor:

Very light-bodied. Dry toasty spicy oak, vanilla fudge, butterscotch and toffee with faint overripe banana. More white pepper spice with water, also revealing chargrilled burnt note. Sweet vanilla fudge balances spicy toasty oak. With ice the flavour fades to vanilla ice-cream..

Aftertaste:

Shortcake, vanilla fudge and lingering spice.

No geral:

Vanilla fudge, toasted almond, almond croissants and acacia honey with white pepper. A dark spirit which drinks like a white spirit to the extent that Haig Club works well when subbed for gin in classic cocktails.
