Royal Dock Gin is produced by the Hayman family. Previous generations, from 1863, supplied a gin named 'Senior Service Gin' to the Royal Navy's Royal Dock in South London's Deptford. The term 'Senior Service' was the Royal Navy's nickname.

The Royal Dock, England's largest naval port, was established in 1513 by Henry VIII and was home to the Navy's Victualing Board for 400 years. The Navy stipulated a high-strength gin so gunpowder would still light if the barrels containing the gin should leak and wet the gunpowder. Members of the highest ranks of the Navy are said to have appreciated the style of Senior Service Gin.

Appearance:

Crystal clear.

Aroma:

Classic pungent London dry with piny juniper, candied ginger and zesty lemon coriander seeds,, nutty angelica and faint earthy parma violets.

Taste:

Slightly sweet with amplified jammy citrus straddling piney juniper and sweet parma violets.

Aftertaste:

Parma violets and zesty citrus linger on the longer black peppery juniper finish.

Overall:

Useful for cocktail recipes calling for Navy-strength gin, or, mix just 40ml of Hayman's Royal Dock Gin with 130ml tonic water in an ice-filled glass for a delicious G&T.
