Today is party time in St Vincent and the Grenadines, one of the world’s smaller – though by no means its smallest – nations.
These West Indian islands will be celebrating their independence from Great Britain, achieved in 1979, with steelpan, calypso, soca, reggae and, of course, rum. We are taking the opportunity to enjoy a classic Bacardi Cocktail, created in Cuba in 1917. In 1938 a court ruled that "Bacardi Rum is unique and uncopyable" and issued a ruling that a Bacardi Cocktail must legally be made with rum manufactured by the Compañía Ron Bacardi.
