Smirnoff Black is distilled in Scotland from wheat. Copper pot stills are used to 'finish' grain neutral spirit, which is then filtered through Siberian silver birch charcoal.
Diageo launched Smirnoff Black in the US in 1995, and the UK two years later. Originally distilled and bottled in Moscow, Russia, production moved to Scotland not long thereafter and this vodka was subsequently re-launched with new packaging in June 2006.
The packaging was further updated in January 2008 when the bottle was given a "regal gold eagle crest overlain with the black Smirnoff banner", and the 'Small Batch' reference added. The previously large copper script “Copper Pot Still” was relegated to the small print while the “N0 55” now only appears on the skirt of the capsule.

Crystal clear, bright.
Liquorice, bran and brazil nut nose with faint aniseed aromas.
Heavy palate with a perceived oily mouthfeel, clean yet characterful with creamy nuttiness (chestnuts) and cleansing fennel.
Spicy finish with slight liquorice, nuts and aniseed finish fades to lingering cracked black pepper.
