Amaro Formidabile is a bittersweet Italian digestivo liqueur, handmade in Rome with a cold infusion of herbs, flowers, bark, roots and fruit peel in wheat-based neutral alcohol.
Amaro Formidabile is made without the use of additives, colouring, caramel or any type of synthetic or natural flavour. All its colour and flavour is derived from the natural botanicals infused in wheat neutral alcohol and water.
Amaro Formidabile is the result of years of experimentation by Roman liqueurist Armando Bomba who formulated his recipe using 11 botanicals:
- Red cinchona
- Chinese rhubarb
- Damask rose petals
- Roman wormwood
- Kola nut
- Star anise
- Bitter orange peel
- Lemon peel
These botanicals are infused between 21 to 27 days and then filtered and left to stabilise for 13 days before blending with sucrose, water and wheat-neutral alcohol. Prior to bottling the liqueur is rested for 45 days in stainless-steel tanks.
Armando Bomba created his recipe close to the historic headquarters of liqueur producers Pallini in Via Tiburtina, Rome. Pallini helped Armando with its production facilities before acquiring the amaro early in 2022 with Armando tutoring Pallini on the intricacies of his complex infusion process.
It is recommended to serve Amaro Formidabile chilled from the refrigerator but without ice, in small stemmed glasses.

Clear, coppery amber with burnished highlights.
Pungent and herbal with faint smokiness, clove, wormwood, liquorice, anise, cola, and orange zest.
Bittersweet and intensely herbal with assertive wormwood, anise and clove notes. Balanced rather than sweet with zesty citrus oils.
Very long finish. Lingering gentian and quinine bitterness with citrus, clove and anise mellowed by honeyed cola.
With its intense flavour, Amaro Formidabile is an invigorating digestive that smacks your taste buds into action.
