First of all I want to apologize. Many of my cocktail tellings, when the first are ok. But it seems that after 3 or 7 cocktails my spelling bee is fumigated and no longer able to humm or speak properly, since I am not a native speaker I do my best. Sorry for that.
Ok, this is strange. Very strange. In Mexico we do not have Advocaat but we have rompope that it seems is in the vein. This is very good: in the way of a lemon pie, bitter but sweet -I didn't ad the extra sugar syrup- since the rompo-advo is very sweet already. Very herbal too, and generally lovely. Maybe I will never do it again, since I want to do each and everyone of the recipes in the Diffordsguide before I die.
I'm keen to try Rompope, but I've not seen it in the UK. Made with eggs, milk, vanilla flavouring, and rum, it does indeed sound similar to Advocaat, which is made with egg yolks, sugar and vanilla with brandy and neutral spirit. The key differences being the base spirits and the inclusion of milk in Rompope.
I played around with this, and keeping with the breakfast theme, I swapped the gin for a bottle of Earl Grey Tanqueray gin I’ve got ( because reasons, that’s why!!!), and I have to say it really works. I also swapped the syrup for vanilla syrup. The tannins of the tea really gel well with the Advocaat. Overall a really smooth and well rounded cocktail
I'm wondering if Warnink's (and by extension, advocaat for sale in the UK) is different to the advocaat here in NL because...this curdled something chronic.
I used a brand called "Twee Kippen" (two chickens). It had the thickness of a very thick custard - I had to do the ketchup bottle style of vigorously shaking to get it out of the bottle. A wide neck.
Made this with Rompone as I can't find Advocaat locally. I suppose that would make this a Mexcan Breakfast Cocktail. Maybe I'll try it with Tequila or perhaps that Mexican corn whiskey I've been wanting to find. This was quite good and is going on the favorites list.
