A bit tart but pleasantly so, quite enjoyed it. I used white grapefruit juice by the way.

I do not understand how this is the recipe.
The true version by Kiyoshi Imai is:
Salted rim and add cherry
//
1 maraschino cherry
//
45 ml silver tequila
//
20ml yellow chartreuse
//
15 ml line cordial
//
1 bar spoon slow gin
//
Add tequila, chartreuse and lime cordial to shaker and once combine appropriately, strain into coupe.. slowly layer the slow gin to infuse into the drink, not as a layer. ENJOY!!!

Me and my girlfriend found it too tart. Added about 1cl simple syrup and it tasted much more balanced.

Agreed. I added a little agave syrup (to go with the mezcal) for the same reason, and now it's perfect.
