Still waiting for the Carl Marx drink!! Perhaps...tedious, pendantic, boring and somehow outrageous and controversial! If that's not a challenge fittingly-hard for Mr. Diffords'...

With the exception of the boarder town between the US and Mexico, this is primarily just another day. It is observed in the state of Puebla, but my friends have other names for this day which is not very complimentary. You are totally correct, it was developed by the brewers and then the distillers got into the act. It is a party day. I live in San Diego, southern California. I always stay home this day (too many amature drunks on the road)

As opposed to the professional drunks?

Today is Napoleon’s death birthday. Just 200 years ago. What about a mix with Napoleon mandarine liqueur?

Perhaps one of mine, a Bonaparte cocktail.

Thanks Simon. I'll give that mix a go. I did try with Italicus, but, like using Drambuie for the 'D' everything came out too sweet.

It is also Karl Marx’ birthday. I had hoped you would suggest a suitable cocktail for the occasion.

I’ll think about it and get back to you.

I've added Karl Marx to the challenge below. Again, do you have any suggestions?

The 5th of May is also traditionally Liberation Day in the Netherlands (Bevrijdingsdag). How about designing a cocktail to celebrate our liberty?

I just mixed Edmund's Covid-19. Mine came out a dirty emerald rather than “rich emerald” but attractive none-the-less. Like the virus, the drink is punchy and likely to leave a lasting effect. Unlike the virus, I’m enjoying it. How about:
Cognac
Orange curacao
Violet liqueur
Italicus
Dubonnet Red

Perhaps something geneverish?
