I had a version of this at a local bar that swapped mezcal for the gin, and it was amazing. Smoky, herbal, a bit sweet. I'll have to try the original and see how it compares.
I appreciate this is well balanced and different, but the creme de cacao in this just makes it plain odd. It tasted like a margarita immediately followed by a chocolate caramel.
This cocktail was on my wish list for a long time before we decided to try. I was concerned it would be too sweet. Was I surprised. This is great. The correct amount of herbal, citrus, and sweet. Was great before dinner. After the cocktail aeration settles there is a slight hint of cocoa at the very end. Going on my favourites.
I like how the gin botanicals lead a bit more here than the Last Word, (so many variations of which are fantastic!) and the white cacao became most notable as the drink warmed up.
