A vibrant menthol-like citrus freshness balances heavy, bittersweet herbal and rooty notes. The whopping slug of banana liqueur is surprisingly integrated...
Very nice and hard to describe, halved the citrus. Sweet lime on the tip of the tongue, minty fernet coming strong on the swallow. The aftertaste is where the nuance lies; molasses, sweet fruit but not obviously banana, herbal, and just a hint of lime.
Taking our cue from the garnish, we reduced the Fernet Branca to 27.5ml (granted, a slightly eccentric measure) and added 2.5ml Branca Menta. And switched the garnish to a dehydrated lime wheel. Nice for us but perhaps only for those who think that too much mint is barely enough.
This is wonderful! Made with a homemade banana liqueur and think this will be the test drink for future batches. Banana and Fernet are a dream combo, fantastic drink.
I don't know if there's anything I'd change about this. The banana plays second fiddle to the Fernet, but the balance and blended harmony of all the ingredients is on point. Good job. (3 Jun 2024, 1:44p)
