Really an excellent cocktail - but the mastiha does not quite fit the hole left by the maraschino. The mastiha has a delicious and distinctive flavor profile, and it works well here - but not as well as the maraschino IMO. And with Green Chartreuse so expensive, I will prefer the original Last Word over this variant. But, still and excellent cocktail, and worth a taste.
Substituted 20ml each Dolin Genepy & Liquore Strega for the Green Chartreuse I don't have. Delicious! Maybe the monks could "hire" some monk wanna-be interns to increase output and meet demand... more revenue for the order, plenty of time to pray (or whatever) and potentially,... new recruits. Fulfill God's Will! Chartreuse for everyone! (No disrespect intended.)
Having discovered Mastiha on a recent Greek holiday I was very happy to find a Last Word variant using it. It works well for me with the Chartreuse and Mastiha well balanced. I initially found it a bit sharp and added 7.5ml sugar. Strangely my wife, who cannot stand Chartreuse and wouldn't normally give a Last Word the time of day, quite enjoyed this.
