I liked this but it felt a bit two dimensional…needed something for that third dimension. The suggestion below to use chocolate bitters instead was excellent!
I'll have to try it with chocolate bitters, but definitely not two dimensional for me with Appleton Estate 8 Reserve and strong dashes of Angostura Aromatic Bitters.
Everything I love about the simple syrup version, except we always have maple in the fridge and there’s no way I’m boiling water in this heat wave. Elegant & slightly debauched in the way of all strong, fruitless rummers.
An old family favourite with a personal twist using Havana Club 7yo, maple syrup with 2-4 dashes (depending on your taste) of Fee Brother's chocolate bitters instead of Angostura bitters.
Tried this with Bacardi Octo, very satisfying. The maple syrup just adds another dimension of sweetness and flavour and in my opinion makes a superior drink to a standard Old Fashioned.
