Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. I was laughing a lot! I think they called those blue laws. Fortunately our STATE government is looking out for us. Not having this Truskkrap. Interestingly several years ago, Costco, a very sucessful "members wholesale shopping outlet"
broke the State Liquor Control Board's singular control over liquer sales thru state liquer stores via a voters initiative. Now grocery stores can sell liquer, we get a much improved selection, the distributors maintain upstream control; and we pay the highest taxes in the country!
Yeah I think quite a lot of countries have a government liquor monopoly of some kind. Liquor sale is strictly regulated here and subject to very high duties, retailed mostly through chain stores owned the supermarket “duopoly” Coles and Woolworths. Some boutique independent retailers but I assume the coats are generally prohibitive. Aldi sell in store and are actually very competitive and sell some quite unexpected products at times - as is their wont! Eg perfectly acceptable domestic and French wines at very good prices and some pretty serviceable gin.
