Dashes of lemon remains an underrated component of stirred drinks. In this one it works great for bringing life to the orange and fusing it with the scotch, without making it a tart cocktail.
Made this with Dolin blanc vermouth and subbed triple sec for curaçao. Complexity from the scotch balances against dry citrus on the palate with a wry aftertaste (could be influenced by Dolin's herbal notes). Would favour as a palate cleanser or a refresher/apéritif for a hot summer afternoon.
Not at all what I expected, in a good way. Light, refreshing, clean and you might struggle to identify it as a scotch cocktail. Almost the scotch cocktail for those who dislike scotch!
Was out of orange curaçao so substituted triple sec. Sweetened the flavor profile a bit, resulted in a very enjoyable cocktail. Smoky, sweet with a hint of sour at the end.
This is a great cocktail. If you are looking for a strong smoky whisky cocktail, this may not be your cocktail. The dry curacao tempers the smoky flavour of the whisky. Found it very pleasing and sophisticated. Perfect for before dinner.
