Clement Shrubb is a liqueur based on unaged and six-year-old Clément Martinique agricole rum which is blended and then aged with orange peels in 250 litre...
I wouldn’t recommend this as a substitute of triple sec. For my taste it is sweeter and more “orangey” in a more one-dimensional way than Cointreau & Co.
I tried on from a recommendation of a bartender friend. This is my favorite orange liqueur for cocktails.
I did a tasting of Creole Shrub, dry Curacao, Grand Marnier, and Cointreau (I did not do any Triple Sec as I find them too sweet). I found that the Creole Shrub was not as sweet as Grand Marnier and Cointreau. A little sweeter than the dry Curacao.
I prefer this in my Rum drinks as it seems to make then a little less sweet. It is hard to find, but my bottle shop always has it.
Cointreau is a brand of triple sec liqueur. Brands of triple sec vary very much in alc./vol. and grams of sugar per litre. Those bottled at 40%, such as Cointreau, tend to be drier and better balanced. All the same rules apply for brands of orange curacao. I'd love to see all products legally required to declare % of sugar as well as % alc./vol. on their labels.
