Just tried a recipe with the same name from another drink site: 45 ml dry vermouth, 22.5 ml fino sherry, 1 barspoon maraschino (amounted to 2.5 ml), and 2 dashes orange bitters (no garnish). I found that had more depth than the one above with equal parts vermouth/sherry and the maraschino, though subtle, somehow stood out a touch more as well. An olive in this does sound good though, hmm.

Your comment led me to revisit the Coronation No. 1, and I ended up with the above revised recipe.

Made with Martini Extra Dry & Oloroso Sherry. The Maraschino is a a key part of this cocktail.

A cracking aperitif cocktail, thoroughly enjoyed by all.

Somehow, with the ingredients list calling for Noilly Prat, my mind automatically added gin, so I put in about an ounce of Blue Juice (Bombay Sapphire), and omitted the sugar syrup. It tasted very nice, and had quite a kick!

We find this delicious. For a richer cocktail use amontillado sherry and bianco vermouth, omitting the sugar syrup.
