Used Sipsmiths and Carpano Antica - a wonderful bouquet of flavor.
Agree with the sentiment that this makes for a great night cap and oddly (but aptly) comes across as a Campari-less Negroni, but not any less for it!
Cynar/carciofo amaro, Rye whiskey 50% abv, Maraschino liqueur, Aromatic bitters, (+ 2 more)
Bourbon whiskey, Orange-red aperitivo, Amaro (e.g. Averna), Lemon juice
A great no-nonsense drink that permits rye's spiciness and Cynar unique bitterness to shine through for those who are able to appreciate the strong flavors.
Bourbon whiskey, Red bitter liqueur, Vermouth alla vaniglia, Coffee liqueur
Peated malt whisky, Red bitter liqueur, Amaro (e.g. Averna), Honey sugar syrup, Creole bitters
The maraschino and absinthe impressively stand up against the Laphroig like Sitting Bull to Custer at the battle of Little Bighorn. Marvelous.
Unlike some other commenters here, I really loved the absinthe forward quality of this cocktail. Just delicious! Used Rittenhouse Rye and Carpano Antica but look forward to trying this with Cocchi as well. This is an excellent, well-balanced drink and a must for licorice lovers like me.
Just tried this with Rittenhouse, Cocchi, and St. George’s for the absinthe; all I can say is wow - so much character and complexity to this drink. Definitely one that will be remembered.
Curious why the recipe calls for shaking over stirring?
Blanco tequila, Vermouth alla vaniglia, Dark crème de cacao, Aromatic bitters, Absinthe
The Quill is to the Negroni, what Denis Villeneuve’s Dune 2 is to Dune 1.
Marvelous.
