Verdita ('little green') is best described as a green Sangrita and like its blood-coloured cousin, Verdita is traditionally served in Mexico as an accompaniment to tequila and sipped alternately as a herbal palate cleanser.

Verdita recipe (makes 12 shots)

Such tequila chasers are traditionally made in Mexico with juices leftover from bowls of salad made with local fruit such as pomegranate, tangerine and mango, spiced up with red pepper (often powdered). From this tradition Sangrita (based on pomegranate) and Verdita (usually based on pineapple) juice emerged.

Serve a shot of both Verdita (green) and a Sangrita (red) alongside a shot of blanco tequila and you'll have what's known as a Mexican flag due to the three glasses mimicking the colours of the flag.
