The Busker "Triple Cask Triple Smooth" is a blend of single grain whiskey (aged in ex-bourbon and marsala wine seasoned casks) with a high percentage of single malt whiskey (aged in ex-bourbon and sherry wine seasoned casks) and pot still whiskey (aged in ex-bourbon and sherry wine seasoned casks).
Unusually all three styles of Irish whiskey in this blend are distilled and matured at the same distillery, Royal Oak Distillery, in County Carlow, Ireland.
ILLVA Saronno, owners of Royal Oak Distillery, also own Cantine Florio, one of the oldest marsala wineries in Sicily, so giving the distillers at Royal Oak access to rare marsala casks in which to age their grain whiskey.
Review and Tasting
Sampled on 30/09/2021
Appearance:
Clear, golden amber.
Aroma:
Woody vanilla, passion fruit, overripe banana, ripe mango, brasil nuts and cinnamon spice.
Taste:
Vanilla fudge, dried mango and dark berry fruits, dry woody nuttiness and cinnamon spice.
Aftertaste:
Long. Nutty vanilla fudge, clove and cinnamon spice.
Overall:
Drier, nuttier and spicer than some more honeyed "easier" Irish blends, which may upset those seeking the promised "triple smooth" on the label. However, this Busker delivers a well-rounded crowd-pleasing performance.
