Launched February 2016, Blas, which translates as ‘taste’ in Gaelic, is a limited edition resplendent with bespoke print packaging by Edinburgh-born fashion designer Patrick Grant. Aged in a combination of American oak barrels and Spanish oak butts and bottled without chill-filtration or added color

Patrick, who is creative director of Savile Row tailors Norton & Sons and luxury menswear label E.Tautz, incorporated features and landscape from the Knockdhu distillery where this single malt is distilled in his design.

Review and Tasting

Appearance:

Clear (clouds with water), golden amber.

Aroma:

Bready and biscuity with pungent candied citrus peel, old-fashioned oil paint, carbolic soap, coal dust, candied ginger and praline chocolate. Water amplifies buttery vanilla. Faint matchbox striking pad.

Taste:

Spicy, salty and smoky buttery corn-on-the-cob with smoked kipper. Takes water well, revealing honey, candied citrus peel, ginger, cinnamon and praline.

Aftertaste:

Dark chocolate, orange zest, ginger, cinnamon and black pepper spice.

Overall:

Spicy and zesty with attractive praline chocolate and ginger.
