Garnish:
Skewered griottine cherry in kirsch
How to make:
SHAKE all ingredients with ice and fine strain into chilled glass.
1 1/2 fl oz | Engine Gin |
1 fl oz | Noilly Prat Extra Dry |
1/2 fl oz | Giffard Noir de Bourgogne Cassis |
1/6 fl oz | Kirschwasser (cherry) eau-de-vie |
Review:
Rich blackcurrant fruit balanced by dry vermouth and the flavoursome spirituous notes of gin and kirschwasser. Don't be tempted to stir this cocktail, it's better shaken as aeration and dilution are crucial to its success. Best enjoyed while still foaming.
History:
The Gasoline Cocktail first appears in the "Cocktails Round Town" chapter by Arthur Moss in Harry McElhone's 1927 Barflies and Cocktails
Mac plus Alister is the name of the boulevardier who waxes motorish over what he calls a "Gasoline Cocktail." Mac says: "Prime with a liberal dash of Kirsch. Mix with Cassis. Drive off with French vermouth. And brake with gin."
Arthur Moss, 1927
