A "Monkey Wrench" is classically just rum, grapefruit juice and bitters – my version's a little different. Originally designed for Monkey 47 gin's botanicals...
Was afraid this was going to be way too sweet, but it is perfectly balanced. Use Campari as it is not as sweet as other bitters. The combinations of all the ingredients Was a perfect aperitivo.
Really good cocktail. The pamplemousse liqueur and aperitivo bring added depth and dimension. Mine had a finish that was slightly too bitter to be balanced, but that was likely a function of my grapefruit juice. Overall, definitely worth trying - and revisiting.
Had to improvise here with Tanqueray Export. Only had 25ml white grapefruit juice, got to thirty with lemon juice and it was still fantastic. The pamplemousse and Aperol are wonderful together.
This is absolutely delicious! My partner avers that it's "dangerously" so ("gulpable" was another adjective used). Really grapefruit forward and zesty. This goes on the favourites list.
