Andrea created this drink "for enjoying the flavour of smoky whisky with calvados adding to apple fruitiness." The amount of Peychaud's used makes or breaks...
I made this with Lagavulin 16 and Avallen Calvados. I feel like the Lagavulin was a little overpowering? Might try adjusting it down and the Calvados up next time to try for a better balance. Still tasty, though. Also curious to try this with Laphroaig 10 like the original spec.
2 years later, maybe, but I want to second what Jeremy Harrold says. Don't be put off, give it a go! This was a pleasant surprise. I always make my own apple juice, so I'm sure flavours will vary depending on the apple varieties at hand, but I was also delighted by an unexpected "honey" element to this one; sweet, but definitely staying on the good side of sweet.
A scary list of strong flavours which may put off the timid bit don’t be scared, it works wonderfully well. Apple with a mellowed peated smoke and that touch of aniseed and smooth vanilla. Give it a go!
