A cocktail which Robert Simonson, the creator's partner, aptly describes as Negroni crossed with a Gin & Tonic. It is surprisingly delicious with the bitter...
Call me a heretic, but liked this one better than the typical Negroni. And I'm not even a big fan of tonic water. It's a healthy mix of bitter and citrusy, depends on the tonic water you use. Good if you just want to have a big glass of something to get you drunk on a hot day, especially if you're a big guy like me who hardly ever gets drunk.
I just tried this, taking a leaf out of James R's book and using 2:1:2 gin, vermouth and tonic. LOVELY drink, very amenable to customisation - I might even try the actual recipe one day!
Interesting combination. I'm using tonic syrup and soda water instead of tonic water. The tonic and vermouth complement each other nicely bitter-fruity. I used 2oz of gin (because I normally do my negronis at 2:1:1) and it's taking a a back seat beneath the tonic and vermouth. I'll probably play with it to balance them all together to my liking. I feel like more bite is needed on the gin, so I might ease back on the tonic and vermouth a bit.
