Needed a red cocktail to celebrate Canada's win today. Maybe not bright red, but close enough and more importantly a delicious cocktail. First time last year I noted it was a tad tart and sweet, so followed J Hinojos suggestion below and upped the cognac but only by 5ml. I also ever so slightly decreased the D.O.M. Much better balanced for me, but I rather suspect the big variable will be the limes on hand.
This was fantastic. Had I not known this is a cognac cocktail I would’ve thought it had a rum base. The cranberry juice plays the role of grenadine together with the honey sweetness of the D.O.M.. I feel it is important that you balance the cocktail according to the sweetness of your cranberry juice. Since mine was barely sweetened I used a barspoon of demarara simple syrup. Very balanced, aromatic and tart.
This is just great! I found it rather rich, but man is it moreish... I used 100% pure cranberry juice (which I keep on hand for my cosmopolitans, too - I like to adjust the sugar myself) and found that a mere 2.5 ml of sugar syrup was enough for a perfectly balanced cocktail. This is definitely going in my permanent rotation!
