I did that, and thoroughly enjoyed the cocktail. It is now smoky with a bitter hint. Delicious in summer.

I riffed on this recipe using Carpano Bitter and 5 ml of agave syrup. Worked for me...

First sip didn’t send me, but a few sips in, the whole combination really works, including the grapefruit twist. We did a side by side, making one with Campari and one with St. George Bruto Americano. The Bruto was the hands down favorite - way more interesting flavors and aroma.

Great suggestion on the Bruto! The complexity really pulls the drink together. We also added a few drops of grapefruit bitters and thought it blended well.
