I built this using G4 Blanco Tequila, Averna Amaro, and Cardamaro with Peychaud’s bitters and expressed orange rind as specified. While it has a really nice mouth feel and a pleasant taste on the palate, there’s a distinct aftertaste that reminds me of a prune jam, or perhaps a dried fruit, that was a bit unexpected. Interesting sipper.

Excellent - the Lucano, Cardamaro and bitters are the keys to the flavor, bringing a depth of moderate earthy herbal, slight spice and slight bitter, with the tequila acting to add a bit of bright citrus. I really enjoyed this, and how it transformed a blanco tequila into something much more complex.

Tried Punt e Mes in place of Cardamaro. I've never tried the latter but the result didn't seem to hit the spot. Not bad but not remarkable.

Punt E Mes could work but it's a lot more flavorful and bitter than Cardamaro. Cardamaro is more like Dubonnet with some added bitters.

I developed this recipe in 2018 and posted it to Kindred Cocktails in 2019 (originally without bitters because I couldn't settle on the right one). I'm just a hobbyist, so I'm thrilled that it has been picked up and adapted by Difford's and others. Youtube channel "AngryCocktails" also has a variation with Punt e Mes in place of Cardamaro.

Many thanks, Dan. It's a great cocktail.

Orange and Peychaud's bitters mentioned in the review but absent from the recipe? Okay, we'll try it every which way and decide on our favorite. Our first take with Peychaud's was a hit. We do it on the rocks.

Hmmm… mixed a batch of two and added Peychaud’s to one - for science. Both of us thought that it actually lost something with the bitters. Quite a lovely cocktail for sipping on the porch.

This is a great tequila negroni esque drink. We've made a couple times. Using cardamaro for the vermouth Amaro each time, once with Correlejo Blanco and once with Altos Repo. Worked great both ways.
