Possibly one of the very few drinks, that are successfully helping me conditioning myself to tolerating/liking absinthe and anise notes in cocktails aswell as in general; more than a regular Sazerac. What I try to say is... I like!
To reduce the waste of old school absinthe rinsing techniques, I also just spray absinthe from small flacons on top of the cocktail from time to time.
I love these ingredients, both separately and together, but I found the whiskey aspect to be a little overwhelmed by the vermouth (and that was using BiB rye exclusively, instead of bourbon). I increased the total whiskey to 2.25 oz and that seemed to balance it out more.
Tried this one on a whim and loved it. The vermouth + Heering round out the bourbon + rye in a really nice way, and the absinthe rinse adds just a tinge of an herbal note.
