Bénédictine is really upfront in this one but then the gin comes in mid-palate. The grapefruit zest twist is a must. I initially forgot it and it was a bit sweet. Once I realized my mistake and added it, it was definitely more balanced.
Might need a big ol’ grapefruit/lemon twist to counter the sweetness of Benedictine, but this simple recipe is great for introducing Benedictine to guests.
I agree with the rest of the comments. This was too sweet for me. I added some water to dilute it which helped. I definitely will tweak the ratios or add soda if I try it again.
Really like this cocktail. It is perfect for an aperitif. Did find it a bit on the sweet side. For my taste, may consider either increasing the gin to 1 1/2 oz or decreasing the DOM to 3/4 oz.
Kathy's comment coupled with yours and Efrasiyab's led me to visit this cocktail. I tried several formulations and enjoyed yours the most so adopted it above. Many thanks, John.
