I really enjoy Negroni's and Negroni variants - and this is exceptional. The Becherovka gives a great clove and winter spice touch, and the sloe gin gives it some red berry sweetness. I tried with both London Dry and Old Tom gin - I preferred the London dry with the juniper notes naturally complementing the cocktail. The cocktail starts as bright red - great for Christmas - but the Carpano Antica darkens and gives a brownish hue (too bad, but the flavors work very well).
What a great and unexpected honour to find my idea taken up and improved by the Master.
Originally, I used The Botanist Islay Dry Gin with it's pronounced spice taste and Carpano Antica Formula which is likewise intense and festive.
Another option is Luxardo Sour Cherry Gin which does a similar job as the Sloe Gin in Simon's recipe.
Not sure I'm a Master but I can spot a great recipe idea. Tis indeed better with Antica Formula so I’ve amended the recipe above accordingly. Many thanks.
