I've made countless recipes of Grog over the last few years. The one listed on the label of the Hamilton BBB Navy Grog blend might be the best. Why this particular take isn't hitting the mark, I can't tell. I've found Pusser's Gunpowder strength more than serviceable so far, if not transcendent.
Used Old Monk rum (the closest thing we can get to Navy Rum where I am living), and it is really good cold! The sweetness and richness of the honey, plus the complexity of the bitters begin. A tinge of citrus follows, with the rum rounding it out. I wonder how it would be with real Navy style rum...
Different from the other rum grog. Not sweet or tiki, but very flavourful. We used a Smith and Cross overproof Jamaican Navy Rum. Went perfectly together. Great for National/International Rum Day.
