James - could we see your homemade Limoncello recipe?

James Miller

Sure. Pretty easy honestly. Get a 750ml bottle of Everclear/grain alcohol (190 proof). 8 -10 Meyer lemons (or organic lemons). Get a large mason Jar to infuse the alcohol with the lemon peels. Here are the steps:

1. Wash and dry the lemons
2. Peel the lemons in thin strips . Try not to get much of the white part of the peel, this is bitter and messes up the flavor.
3. Put the peeled lemon strips in the mason jar and pour int he 750ml of grain alcohol.
4. Put in a dark cool place (back of a cabinet) and try to remember to shake each day.
5. I let my infuse for 2-3 weeks.
6. I use a 3 cups of sugar to 4 cups of water to make the simple syrup needed. Bring to a boil and let cool. Once cool pour into a large bowl.
7. Strain the infused lemon alcohol into the bowl of simple syrup you made above and stir to combine the ingredients.
8. Using a funnel, pour into a glass bottle(s). (I bought a few on Amazon with the the flip top sealer. )
9. Put in the freezer at least a day before you serve.

And that is it. Hope it works for you and enjoy the delicious Limoncello.

Very nice. I think I might try with a Rye next time to cut some of the sweetness and give it a kick. Agree with the comments below about the extra bitters. Also, used homemade 100proof vodka Limoncello, will try next time with my 190 proff version.

Nice refreshing cocktail. I used homemade Limoncello (190 proof base) and while a little sweet was very nice. With the 190 proof Limoncello you have to be careful as it went down way to easy !!
