3/4 fl oz Hayman's London Dry Gin
3/4 fl oz Calvados / apple brandy / straight applejack
3/4 fl oz Luxardo Apricot Albicocca Liqueur
3/4 fl oz Orange juice (freshly squeezed)
1/6 fl oz Monin Grenadine Syrup

How to make:

  1. Select and pre-chill a Coupe glass.
  2. Prepare garnish of orange zest twist or apricot wedge on rim.
  3. SHAKE all ingredients with ice.
  4. FINE STRAIN into chilled glass.

Aunt Emily was onto something - equal parts gin, calvados, apricot brandy and orange juice combine well.

History:

This vintage cocktail is notable due to its appearing in Charles H. Baker's 1939 An Exotic Drinking Book or Around The World With Jigger, Beaker and Flask. Baker says, "a creation of Sloppy Joe's, in Havana, years before his spot got to be a sort of halfway house for every itinerant American on the Island. The cocktail appears on Sloppy Joe's menus after 1932.
