I so love the appeal of the licorice flavor, it always reminds me of my childhood. I thought the recipe was a little week, but there is always a place for a good low abv cocktail. It tasted good, but I fortified this with a 1/2 oz of white Cuban Rum. It was also very nice.
It turns out I overestimated how much I like anise, which left me with nearly a full bottle of absinthe to get through and not much enthusiasm for the project. This drink is OK though, so I have hope. I agree with John Hinojos about the sarsparilla taste. It's a decent hot summer's day drink.
I have always been a lover of Absinthe (even when the real thing was not available). Pernod was the first bottle of alcohol I bought on my 21st birthday. I loved this. Had it with luncheon and it was perfect. When mixed it has hints of sarsaparilla. Great cocktail.
This was quite excellent, and only the 1/2oz of liquor is an interesting twist for a highball that creates more drinkability. I played with adding 3/4ox of tequila to the drink and that really muddied the flavors, the original was far better. I will be coming back to this when I want something low in alcohol but with big flavors.
