It's very balanced but it's actually not quite as bitter as I want. Never thought I'd say this about a Negroni riff but I miss the bite from the equal parts Campari. I'll try to increase the Campari next time and see if that does something.
Perhaps just my mood but I was struck by a lot of complexity, with several waves of flavours. I subbed in Regal Rogue vermouth and Select. The first outstanding rating I think I've given. Superb.
Hmmmm. The sweet vermouth I had open was Carpano Antica. Maybe too heavy for one to appreciate the Tequila and Mezcal? I will have to try it with a lighter vermouth.
As soon as I tried it, I was pretty sure it was by mine truly. Departing from the classical three equal parts was a bit difficult but elegance comes at a cost, doesn't it?
I MADE this while i was making drinks and wow this is a DRINK. smooth subtled balanced superb. i also made a cynar version - swapping out the campari. not as good as this recipe but still a worthy riff if you're a cynar fan. viva mexico viva la vida loca.
The "smoke" from the tequila/mezcal are a nice way to add some more complexity without adding to the sweetness/bitterness. For my taste, I think I'd prefer this over a classic Negroni.
