I feel this drink is great any time of the day really. The maple syrup really makes it rich, but the lemon and cucumber refreshes it. The spirits are not as forward, but it is a great example that not every cocktail needs to be a glass of booze. I could still taste them too, the gin really comes with the cucumber, while the Cognac comes with the lemon and maple.

Hmm. More interesting than really delicious as far as I'm concerned. Certainly good flavors but I think I would rather have my cucumber and gin as a martini-style drink, and my cognac/maple combination as something else too.

Thank you for the quick reply! By the way, it seems like a small amount of fluids (60ml) compared to most cocktails that are around 100-110ml. Or does the cucumber slice need to be thick enough to produce around 30ml of juice? Or do you shake this one longer than usual?

It is indeed a low volume cocktail and using specs above would be better served in a Nick & Nora glass.

Would the Merlet VSOP be a good cognac for this cocktail? Or would it be too fruity and mess with the balance?

I think Merlet VSOP would be delicious.
