A riff on the classic Last Word cocktail substituting Irish whiskey for gin. Named after Frank Fogarty, a vaudeville performer known as The Dublin Minstrel...
This is a really good cocktail. I've been making mine with Jameson Black Barrel, and have somehow got confused and been using lemon juice instead of lime. I'll sort that out, but I can report that lemon works well. I also tend to prefer my cocktails sweetish, and its seemed just perfect with an added maraschino cherry.
Starting St Patrick’s day early (practicing) I added chilled water as it is what I learned here that it’s the right thing to add when using spirits such as Chartreuse, Maraschino liqueur or Bénédictine, and it really works.
Made this for Saint Patrick's Day with Jameson as the whiskey and was very pleased not only with the fresh, springlike flavours but the lovely pale green colour of the drink.
Initially, I held back a bit on the Maraschino, as I find this can sometimes overpower a drink, but, after tasting the cocktail before shaking, I added the rest in as it really does need that much to help temper the lime juice and add floral character. Overall, I found this a lovely, really well-balanced drink.
