Great Minds! I did similar. “Irish Exit”. Only I swapped out the Marischino for Mastiha and swapped out the Lime for Lemon. 3/4 oz each.

Just made this using a blended scotch as I was out of Irish whiskey. Tastes excellent. Told my wife it was a Glasgow Piper.

This is a wonderful cocktail but, it's not clear to me if I should give it a try with 40ml of whiskey. Did the original version ask for 30ml, or was it 20ml and it has been updated? Cheers!

I'm not sure either. I first made the drink with 30 ml whiskey then 40 ml; I found the 40 ml better. Try making it initially with 30 mls then added 10 mls.

My compliments to the creator, but I would have to agree with the other comments and add an extra 10ml of the whiskey, other it gets a little lost.

Still five stars and a heart for me as written. Just revisited with Chartreuse Juane, Maraska Maraschino, fresh Key lime juice and Black Bush. A little extra whisky couldn't hurt (think Boulevardier v.s. Negroni) but not necessary imo.

Wonderful cocktail but our advice is to add a further 10ml whiskey and serve it in a Coupe glass. Our whiskey is Busker single pot still.

Yes, the Irish whiskey definitely gets lost in this one. And I used Tullamore Dew XO (the rum casks one).

A decent sipper, but I'll stay with a Last Word when I'm feeling flush with Chartreuse.

The extra 10ml of whisky in the ratios really helps as its not as bold as the gin inthe original but works well

As the man himself has pointed out there aren't too many Welsh themed cocktails. So swap the whisky for Penderyn and switch to yellow chartreuse and you'll have yourself a 'St David's harpist ' just in time for St David's day - phew! Both versions pretty tasty

The Last Word is one of my favorite cocktails, but I find this to be superior. I stick to the specs and feel it benefits from a good long shake. I have tried it with more expensive Irish whiskeys but find regular Jameson works quite well. Excellent work Mr. Difford.

Agreed, this was one of my earlier Last Word experiments, and it really works. Jameson black barrel is the Irish whiskey that I most often have in house, and it works great here.

I think you're going to have to use a pretty flavorful whisky if you want to notice it. Probably prefer a Last Word over this but it's definitely not bad.

I like it better than The Last Word, but agree with many of the comments below - the whisky is hard to notice.

We love this, so bravo! And we think it does well with Mezcal in place of the Whiskey. In which case it may be an "il trovadore de Zacatecas".

Oh, as we now see, this makes it a Closing Argument. Well, reinventing the wheel is perhaps better than never having entered into the spirit of invention.

It's pretty good as is, but for me it's a bit too overpowered with Chartreuse and Maraschino.
I like this better:
1.5 oz Irish whiskey
0.5 oz Green Chartreuse
0.5 oz Maraschino Liquor
0.5 oz Lime juice.

Sounds worth trying! I’m out of Chartreuse and the price is crazy these days! After the “great Chartreuse crisis of ‘21” the price gouging buggers have never dropped the price back down again. 😡

For those fearful of the quantity of chartreuse in this recipe, your bravery will be rewarded when trying this recipe!! Chartreuse is an acquired and intense taste. Personally, I am apprehensive of any recipe that calls for more than 15 mL of the stuff. However, I tried this recipe on a whim because it stood out from the vast array of Manhattan or old fashioned riffs when searching for rye nightcaps. This is going in my “best of” cocktail notebook.

This is a really good cocktail. I've been making mine with Jameson Black Barrel, and have somehow got confused and been using lemon juice instead of lime. I'll sort that out, but I can report that lemon works well. I also tend to prefer my cocktails sweetish, and its seemed just perfect with an added maraschino cherry.

Starting St Patrick’s day early (practicing) I added chilled water as it is what I learned here that it’s the right thing to add when using spirits such as Chartreuse, Maraschino liqueur or Bénédictine, and it really works.
