I do like the recipe I found originally.
45 ml gin
22.5 lime juice
22.5 green Chartreuse ( sub Genepy)
30 ml St. Germain
Dash orange bitter
The beauty of drinks like this, you can experiment with different Gins and I’ve been known to switch to lemon juice….and I save my REAL Chartreuse for special occasions!!! Cheers!
I made the given recipe which resulted in a solid, but not an outstanding cocktail. Next time I would follow Chris suggestion and use more gin, alternatively a gin which is very heavy on herbals.
What a template for variations the Last Word provides! The Lumiere follows Difford's 3:2:2:2 proportions for the Last word, which veer more in the sweet direction than Venegas' Gypsy #1. I like basic 2:1:1 proportions for Daisy-class drinks like Margaritas, and after some experimentation find that 2:1:1:1 proportions (just increase the gin in Difford's Lumiere recipe to 1.33 oz) yields excellent results. Elderflower makes the Last Word more herbal and complex than it is with maraschino liqueur, and this is a very minor tweak of the Last Word proportions (and still plenty sweet enough). My new favorite Last Word variation; I dub it the Gypsy Light.
